Who was the best newcomer to the smartphone game this year? [Poll of the Week]

The year 2017 saw a handful of new smartphone manufacturers enter the Android arena.

HMD Global, the proud owners of the Nokia name, had a great year. The company brought its first Android phone, the Nokia 6, to market back in January. Following that, HMD launched the Nokia 3 and 5, followed by the company’s very first high-end Android smartphone, the Nokia 8. Somewhat surprisingly, the Nokia 8 held its own throughout our Best of Android 2017 competition.

In case that wasn’t enough, HMD then launched the Nokia 7 and affordable Nokia 2 in late October. They really started out with a bang this year.

Then, midway through the year, a brand new phone manufacturer came to be. Andy Rubin’s Essential unveiled its first phone, the PH-1 (or Phone), in May 2017. While the Essential Phone may not have garnered the most positive reviews around the web, the company has been working hard to bring features and improvements to its first smartphone.

Last but not least, Razer unveiled its first phone in November. With its 120 Hz display, top-of-the-line specs, and interesting approach to software, everyone—not just gamers—had high hopes for the Razer Phone. Unfortunately the camera experience is pretty bad, though Razer says it will improve in the future.
