ZTE has been working hard to establish themselves as a champion of the mid-range in the US. The nation’s fourth largest smartphone brand isn’t known for its flagships so much as its bang-for-your-buck low cost devices with surprisingly respectable specs. The company will soon be unveiling a new premium-feel smartphone called the Axon 7 on May 26, and it was built in collaboration with BMW’s subsidiary Designworks.

ZTE sending out invites to announce the Axon 7
News

This latest addition to the Axon line promises to bring a premium feel at a price roughly half that of today’s flagships. ZTE has been pretty tight lipped about the specs, but it looks like it will have dual front facing speakers, and the headset logo dropped in the tail-end of the trailer seems to indicate that it will be VR-ready. We’re not exactly sure about the role BMW Designworks played in the development of this device, but we’re hoping to see something both sleek and stylish when it’s officially unveiled.

We did, however, catch a glimpse of this device as it made it’s way through China’s TENAA regulatory filing. Because of this, we are expecting it to have a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display. Under the hood should be an impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor powered by 4GB of RAM and sporting 64GB of internal storage. The rear camera is expected to be a 20MP offering, and the selfie snapper rocks 8 megapixels. It should run Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box, and with a 3,140mAh battery, it should keep you going all day long. With specs like that, it will certainly be impressive if ZTE is able to live up to the fifty-percent-of-flagship price point they’ve been hinting at. Let us know what you think of this premium mid-range offering from ZTE in the comments!
