Facebook is kind of everywhere. The social network is a giant, and it isn’t going anywhere, but this doesn’t mean it is exactly where the company wants it to be.

New reports suggest Facebook is working on a new camera app that would entice user to share more self-created images and videos, giving the platform a much more personal touch, which it seems to be losing.

According to The Information, Facebook’s original broadcast sharing was down 21% in mid-2015, when compared to a year before. And I think this phenomena is really something many of us can notice.

What is it you mostly see when you log into Facebook? I don’t know about you, but I mostly find memes, funny videos and a bunch of viral stuff. Whatever happened to the personal posts? They are all buried somewhere in there.

Facebook has been keeping this in mind. Sharing original content is important for good interaction. Ever wonder why you get those Messenger notifications, asking you if you want to share a picture with friends? It’s kind of a freaky way to use face recognition, but it’s also part of the bigger plan. Said camera app would somehow be a part of this whole strategy to get people creating their own media.

Maybe it was all Facebook’s own fault. Applications like Snapchat and Instagram are designed to entice users to create their own content. Meanwhile, Facebook is all about consuming content. You see and read plenty of great (and not-so-great) stuff, then you share it around. But it’s mostly stuff that comes from some extraneous place in the internet, not from your friends or family.

Details on the app and project are scarce, so there is not much else we can tell you. We only know the prototype app has a camera UI similar to that of Snapchat. The sources also state it will be possible to live stream straight from this application. But don’t get too excited, as they also claim this project is in its early stages and may never even make it to the market.

We suppose more details will come in due time. Until then, hit the comments and let us know if you would welcome a Facebook camera app. How do you think Facebook could become more personal?
