The honor 5X has sold 8 million units globally
During the honor 5A announcement in China yesterday, honor president Zhao Ming mentioned honor 5X sales globally have surpassed 8 million units. The honor 5X was launched in China in October 2015 and landed on U.S. shores in January with European markets following soon thereafter. honor is confident the 5X is comfortably on its way to shipping 10 million units globally.
You may recall that the honor 5X is known as the HUAWEI GR5 in Canada, so it is unclear if those sales figures are included in the 8 million milestone. As outlined at the time, HUAWEI is more interested in building its primary brand in Canada than its subsidiary brand, hence the name change. To give you some perspective, Samsung shipped around 10 million Galaxy S7’s in its first month of availability.
No matter which way you cut it though, 8 million units in roughly 6 months is a huge achievement for the honor 5X. The budget-friendly device, packing a full metal housing, fingerprint scanner and 5.5-inch Full HD display, is priced around the $199-$249 price range (depending on your market and outlet). If even that price point is a little too steep for you, the just-announced honor 5A is an even more budget version of the honor 5X and successor to the honor 4A. Something tells me it’s going to sell well too.
What do you think of the honor 5X? Do you like what HUAWEI is doing with the brand?
