Lenovo's Tab 4 series of Android tablets promise not to break the bank
After initially going hands-on with the Tab 4 series of Android tablets during MWC 2017 in Barcelona, it looks like Lenovo is ready to launch the line of 8- and 10-inch tablets that come in standard and “Plus” iterations.
As a refresher, the Tab 4 8 and Tab 4 10 feature Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset and 2 GB of RAM, with their 16 GB of internal storage augmented by their MicroSD card slots. Both models also feature 1,280 x 800 resolution displays, with the Tab 4 10 featuring an 8 MP main camera and 5 MP selfie shooter. By comparison, the Tab 4 8 rocks a 5 MP camera around back and a 2 MP front-facing camera.
Much like the standard versions, the Tab 4 8 Plus and Tab 4 10 Plus are very similar to each other, with both tablets rocking Full HD displays, 8 MP rear cameras, and 5 MP selfie cameras. Both tablets also feature Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 625, up to 4 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of native storage, front-facing speakers, and a fingerprint sensor that is integrated with the power button on the Tab 4 8 Plus and with the home button on the Tab 4 10 Plus.
There are similarities between the regular and Plus variants of the Tab 4, however. The 8-inch models feature 4,850 mAh batteries, while the 10-inch Tab 4 models get by with 7,000 mAh batteries. Furthermore, all tablets run Android 7.0 Nougat, which is a bit depressing seeing how Android 8.0 Oreo is already available. Let’s hope that these tablets will get updated relatively quickly, though that hasn’t been Lenovo’s MO when it comes to Android updates.
Finally, and probably the worst bit for folks in the US, every Tab 4 model, including the Plus variants, maxes out at 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. This makes the international versions more powerful and spacious than the US variants, so keep that in mind if you live in the US and want to pick up any of the Tab 4 tablets.
Speaking of which, the Tab 4 10 Plus is the only one that can be purchased through Lenovo’s website, so we will update this post with more purchase links once more models become available.
