Does the OnePlus 6T in-display scanner work with a screen protector?
In-display fingerprint scanners are far from commonplace but we expect that to change in the very near future. The latest phone to switch to an in-display scanner is the OnePlus 6T. An in-display fingerprint sensor captures the reflected light of the fingerprint through the OLED pixels, so could adding a screen protector affect how well this works? The answer is yes.
A particularly thick screen protector could end up messing up the accuracy of an in-display fingerprint scanner. The good news is that this doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t use a screen protector, you just will have to be a little picker when shopping around for one. A generic protector might end up causing problems, but we’re sure it’s only a matter of time before 3rd party OEMs offer plenty of options that are guaranteed to work.
In the meantime, the best route is to get a OnePlus 6T screen protector straight from OnePlus. If you don’t mind plastic screen protectors, the OnePlus 6T will include one in the box, so you don’t have to buy anything. If you prefer glass screen protectors, you’re out of luck for now. We’ll update this post if and when OnePlus adds any official tempered glass options to its store.
