OnePlus apologizes for pre-order issues yesterday, offering second chance on Nov 17
To the surprise of few, things didn’t exactly go according to plan yesterday during OnePlus’s “one hour pre-order” event. The servers froze up, they had to extend times and there were plenty of bugs and issues with the pre-ordering process. Now OnePlus has officially taken to its blog to apologize, and to offer up a second chance to pre-order for those that weren’t successful the first time around.
The new pre-order event will take place on Monday, November 17th at 15:00 GMT. Waiting a few weeks gives them time to ensure that servers are running great and that enough stock is waiting as well. While OnePlus doesn’t specify, it’s very likely the window will be for just one hour, once again.
For those curious as to what went wrong yesterday, OnePlus offers up the following explanation:
In the lead up to opening our pre-order window, we more than doubled our server capacity to handle the expected traffic. However the amount of people signing in to submit pre-orders caused them to hang at certain points in the process, leaving many users unable to log in.As more people signed on, the backlog of connections piled up and created a bad experience for many visitors trying to access the site. This left far too many users frustrated, disappointed and order-less. We have spent the past 24 hours identifying the weak points that led to this and mapping out a strategy to address them.
The good news is that well over 10,000 folks were successful in ordering, and hopefully many more will now have the chance come November 17th. For those that have been frustrated by the invite process and also ran into issues with the first pre-order round, are you still interested in the OnePlus One or have you turned your attention elsewhere?
