OnePlus halts CM 12S rollout to add new ‘OK OnePlus’ feature
After a long delay, Lollipop finally arrived to OnePlus One devices last week, in the form of a CM OS 12 update. Or did it? While it is true that some users managed to get their hands on the update, it has since been paused. The reason for temporarily canceling the rollout? According to a new Tweet from Carl Pei, the rollout has been stalled in order to add a new function called “OK OnePlus”.
As you probably guessed from the name, this is basically OnePlus’ take on “Ok, Google”. The new feature will offer familiar hands-free voice control and will even work when the display is off. Thankfully, the wait for CM OS 12 with OK OnePlus functionality won’t be a long one, with Pei stating that we can expect the update to resume mid-week. For those wondering, if you already have CM OS 12 you will still get the OK OnePlus feature through a future OTA update.

While delaying an update to add a feature is better than delaying due to bugs and other issues, we can’t help but wonder why OnePlus didn’t have this feature ready to go before pulling the trigger on updates. Or for that matter, why they could just roll out the OK OnePlus feature later to those already with CM OS 12.
Bottom-line, if you’re a OnePlus One owner waiting on Lollipop, you’ll have the sweet treat soon, and with an extra feature added to the mix too.
