Last week the Samsung Galaxy Tab E leaked, packing relatively low-end specs, at least according to the leaked information. Now Samsung has gone and made the device official, at least for the Taiwanese market.

The Galaxy Tab E is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB RAM, though Samsung has yet to specify what exact CPU it is packing. For what it’s worth, rumors previously pegged it as touting a Spreadtrum SC7730SE. Turning to the other specs, you’ll find a 9.6-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, 8GB storage, microSD expansion, a 5000 mAh battery, and Android 4.4 KitKat. While KitKat is more than a little dated at this stage, it is likely that Lollipop simply didn’t perform well enough with these obviously low-end specs. The Tab E SM-T560 is a Wi-Fi only device, it is fairly likely that a cellular variant will arrive at some point in the future.

Let’s be honest, this tablet’s specs and hardware are more than a little disappointing, especially considering the asking point of $225. At this asking price, you can find a number of competing alternatives that offer much more power under the hood. It’s currently unclear if or when this tablet might arrive outside of Taiwan, though we’ll be sure to let you know if/when we learn more.
