Sony is teasing AOSP Lollipop 5.0 on Xperia Z series
Google released the source code to Android 5.0 Lollipop earlier this week, and thanks to a seemingly-eager Sony, we’re already seeing early builds running on the Xperia Z series devices. The SonyXperiaDev YouTube channel posted a video earlier this morning, showing the Xperia Z, Z2, and Z3 running AOSP 5.0.
Sony is no stranger to releasing AOSP builds for developers, giving them a base to use for custom ROMs and other purposes. In their official blog post, the company revealed that they will provide updated binary files in the near future, via their developer portal. Of course it’s important to keep in mind these are just AOSP ROMs, and the actual Sony Lollipop build with Google Play and Sony additions isn’t expected to arrive until sometime early next year.
Aside from revealing its plans for an AOSP build of Lollipop, Sony also announced it is hosting a new pilot program in Sweden with 3Beta. This program allows select users to test Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact devices running early versions of Lollipop (with Sony additions on top). This will help the company squash as many bugs as possible before the early 2015 release date.
