A special edition OnePlus 5 might be revealed next week
OnePlus is holding an event on September 19 in Paris, where the company will reveal something new. Before you get too excited, let me point out that it won’t be a new smartphone, as the OnePlus 5 has been available for just three months.
What we’ll likely see is a special edition of the flagship made in partnership with designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. OnePlus has confirmed that it’s teaming up with the famous French designer to TechAdvisor, which also got its hands on the invite for the event — check it out below.
Unfortunately, the invite doesn’t really reveal much, so we’re not completely sure what to expect. Our best guess is that the company will show off the OnePlus 5 in a new color option and branded with the designer’s logo on the back.
If you recall, OnePlus did the same thing back in March when it joined forces with Colette and announced a limited edition OnePlus 3T. It came in a new color at the time — black — and had the Colette logo engraved on the back, but remained identical to the standard variant of the device in terms of specs.
Only 250 units were made available and you were only able to get your hands on one at Colette stores in Paris. We do expect that the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac edition of the OnePlus 5 will also be limited, although there’s no word on how many units will be up for sale. We hope the number will be higher than back in March and that the device will also be sold online.
Would you be interested in getting a Jean-Charles de Castelbajac edition of the OnePlus 5 over a standard version?
