Super Phantom Cat delivers spry retro platforming to your mobile device
In case you haven’t noticed, retro is totally in vogue and has been so for at least the past five years. There’s just something extra charming about simple, unassuming graphics and tight, crunchy gameplay that tickles all of the right neurons. So it’s no surprise that the old-school-feeling Super Phantom Cat is making some waves in the mobile gaming arena.
Super Phantom Cat is a modern twist on an old concept that has all the enemy-stomping, brick-breaking action that you would expect from a game unleashed in the mid-nineties. You follow the classical style of gaming by collecting coins and squashing baddies underfoot while avoiding dangerous obstacles. Not much more to it than that, but really what more do you need?
Honestly, we’ve seen these gameplay mechanics before, but the quirky characters and graphical styling has us drawn into the world of Super Phantom Cat. The soundtrack is delightful, and the gameplay is addicting. Once you start unlocking extra characters and bonus levels, you’ll see why this game is rocking a 4.7 rating in the Google Play Store.
The game takes its cues from 16-bit classics like Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Best of all, it is free, though there are a couple of in-app purchases, but no of which are required to enjoy the game to its fullest. Super Phantom Cat also happens to be ad-free, which is another win.
