TL;DR
  • Samsung’s expected to introduce a new, extra-wide foldable this year.
  • We’ve already started to get an idea for the shape of this so-called Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide thanks to some leaks and early CAD renders.
  • Now a new find in Samsung firmware offers yet another look at how this new screen is taking form.

By most accounts, there’s a new foldable phone from Samsung on the way. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a new, wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold joining the next generations of the standard Fold and Flip — perhaps as a response to Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone. But so far, we’ve yet to actually lay eyes on the hardware. That’s still not changing today, but we do have one fresh new piece to add to the puzzle.

Despite still not having seen any actual photos of this supposed Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (no one seems super confident on Samsung’s ultimate branding), there’s still been a fair amount of evidence to help set our expectations. And now we’ve got just a little bit more to check out, as SamMobile shares this imagery it reportedly extracted from the phone’s One UI 9 firmware:

This isn’t the first time that Samsung’s own software has given us an early look at the Fold 8 Wide, and a little over a month ago we got our hands on this fantastic animation:

Comparing the two, that does appear to be a reasonably close match of aspect ratio. In addition to these illustrations, we’ve also recently seen the publication of some CAD-based renders of Fold 8 Wide hardware, including a very handy comparison render against the standard Z Fold 8:

For users familiar with the regular Fold models, picking up the Fold 8 Wide might require a small adjustment, but we imagine you’ll quickly get used to not having to stretch as far to reach the top of your display, and enjoy the wider screen real estate available to you.

While it feels like we’re getting to a place where we can really appreciate the benefits of this new shape for Samsung’s book-style foldable, it would still be lovely to get a peek at the actual phone in the flesh — or at the very least, some official Samsung renders.

Samsung’s been favoring July launch events for its foldables going back the past few generations, so odds are we’re looking at something similar in 2026 — almost certainly sometime this summer, at the very least. Hopefully that means we’re not very far off from some higher-quality leaks, including maybe even some photos or video of the foldable in action.
