vivo V23 series launched: Two selfie cameras, color changing back
Vivo’s V series of mid-range phones tend to focus on the selfie experience, with previous entries offering features like 44MP cameras and even LED flash modules. Now, the company has announced the vivo V23 and V23 Pro, continuing this tradition of prioritizing selfies.
The two phones share a number of features, starting with the selfie cameras. Expect to find a 50MP primary selfie camera on both devices (supporting 4K video and autofocus), accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide snapper for group shots and similar situations.
Other notable shared features include a 90Hz FHD+ OLED screen with a notch, the same secondary rear cameras (8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro), 44W wired charging, and a color-changing fluorite AG glass back in gold or black colorways (with the color changing when exposed to sunlight). Speaking of design, the phones also measure just under 7.4mm thin and weigh in at under 180 grams.
The phones also have identical RAM/storage SKUs, being available in 8GB/128GB or 12GB/256GB flavors.
vivo V23 series: How do they differ?
Vivo’s more expensive model offers a Dimensity 1200 SoC that should enable upper mid-range to flagship-level performance. By comparison, the vanilla model serves up a Dimensity 920 chipset that’s broadly in line with the likes of the Snapdragon 765G.
The V23 Pro also serves up a 4,300mAh battery and a 6.56-inch curved screen, while the standard V23 offers a 4,200mAh battery and a 6.44-inch flat panel.
Switching to the camera field, the two phones share secondary rear cameras but differ when it comes to the primary lens. Expect a 108MP main camera (Isocell HM2, 0.7-micron pixels) on the Pro variant and a 64MP main shooter on the standard V23. It’s also worth noting that the Pro variant supports 4K/60fps selfie video while the vanilla V23 tops out at 4K/30fps.
vivo V23 series pricing and availability
It looks like vivo is aiming for wider availability with these new phones than its 2021 flagships. The firm said that the phone will gradually be released in over 50 markets, starting from today. The first wave of countries will be India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, with APAC, Europe, and Middle Eastern markets getting the phones “over the next few months.”
Expect to pay a starting price of Rs 38,990 (~$524) for the vivo V23 Pro in India and Rs 29,990 (~$403) for the standard V23.
