vivo Xplay 6 is a Galaxy S7 edge clone with a cheaper price tag
Does the image above look very familiar? I don’t blame you because apart from the rounder home button, it looks just like Samsung’s current curved flagship, the Galaxy S7 edge. Well, this is not the S7 edge; it’s vivo’s latest phablet, featuring a dual-edge display and a dual-camera set up, and not too surprisingly, it’s cheaper than Samsung’s offering.
The Chinese electronics giant unveiled its new flagship today, and I have to say, it ticks all the right boxes. Right off the bat, you see a gorgeous 5.46-inch curved display with 2K resolution (although the source does not specify, my guess would be that this is an AMOLED display). Judging from the press release photos, vivo seems to have adopted a Samsung-esque edge toolbar where presumably you’d be able to pin your favourite apps and contacts etc. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor, not the 821 chipset.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Apart from the obvious design elements, the vivo Xplay 6 is, at least on paper, packs superior specs. Along with the Snapdragon 820 processor, vivo’s phablet boasts 6GB of RAM, which seems to be the new norm in the Android world. On the back, you will find a 12-megapixel camera, which comes with a Sony IMX362 sensor, 4-axis OIS, and an aperture of f/1.7. Underneath, there is a secondary 5-megapixel module, which according to Gizmo China, will help add a shallow depth of field effect. The front facing camera is a 16-megapixel shooter – again, a trend that we are starting to see in Android devices.
The phone should be able to last a full day and perhaps more thanks to the enormous 4,080 mAh battery, and what’s even more baffling is that vivo managed to pack all of this into a device that is merely 5.2mm thin! I know what you’re all wondering, and don’t worry, it looks like the 3.5mm headphone jack is there. Phew.

The device will be available for purchase from the official website starting December 12, and it will set you back $655, significantly cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. In the meantime, you can check out more images of the device from below:
