Amazon's updated Fire 7 tablets promise to be faster and have more space
Today, Amazon announced upgraded Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids Edition tablets that are now available for pre-order.
Starting with the Fire 7, the tablet features a faster processor than its predecessor. We’re still talking about a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, though Amazon said the processor has more memory bandwidth.
The Fire 7 also features double the storage of its predecessor — you can now get the tablet with either 16GB or 32GB of expandable space. If that’s not enough, the Fire 7 now supports up to 512GB microSD cards.
Even the front camera gets an upgrade to 720p, a long-overdue upgrade from the 420p front camera found in the older version.
The good news is that the upgrades won’t hike the Fire 7’s price tag — we’re still talking $49.99 for the 16GB version and $69.99 for the 32GB version, both with special offers. Getting the tablet without special offers is an extra $15 for both storage options.
Moving to the Fire 7 Kids Edition, the tablet features the same performance and storage bumps as the normal Fire 7. The biggest change is with the kid-proof case, which now features an adjustable stand for hands-free use.
The Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids Edition are now available for pre-order, with the tablets launching June 6. The Fire 7 is available in black, plum, sage, and Twilight Blue. The Fire 7 Kids Edition is available in blue, pink, and purple.
