Amazon could launch its own Alexa-powered TV in the US very soon
- Amazon could soon launch a line of self-branded TVs in the US.
- The launch could take place as early as October.
- The panels would be manufactured by TCL and include Alexa support.
Amazon could launch a new line of self-branded TVs in the United States as early as October, according to a new report.
Per Business Insider, sources with knowledge of the “closely guarded secret” claim Amazon’s TVs will pack Alexa support, range from 55- to 75-inches in size, and will initially be manufactured by Chinese firm TCL. Amazon is also reportedly building one set itself.
Amazon isn’t completely new to the TV scene as it sells a range of TVs under its Amazon Basics moniker in India. The 55-inch panel packs 4K resolution, three HDMI 2.0 ports, Dolby Vision and HDR10 support, and Fire TV OS. It also offers third-party manufacturers its Fire TV OS platform, too.
It’s unclear how Amazon could price its TV series in the US, but the Amazon Basics TV gives us a rough guide. The 55-inch model sells for Rs 42,999 in India (~$589). We could therefore expect a price in excess of $600 for the cheapest model. Of course, Amazon would be going up against the likes of Samsung, LG, and TCL in the US, so aggressive pricing could be a valid strategy to push its ecosystem into more homes.
