Supercell has announced a new season pass-style feature for its smash hit mobile game Clash of Clans. The company revealed the so-called Seasonal Challenges earlier today alongside its April update — and they’re now available to all players.

To help bring you up to speed with what the new system means for you, we’ve put together a brief overview of the key concepts. Let’s dive in.

What are Seasonal Challenges?

Seasonal Challenges are a new Clash of Clans feature that allows players to participate in daily and monthly challenges to earn extra rewards.

There are several daily challenges which refresh each day, and 24 monthly challenges which are unlocked at a rate of six per week. These run until the end of the month.

The challenges don’t involve any gameplay that you wouldn’t encounter during regular play but instead are conventional ‘build [X] buildings,’ ‘deploy [X] troops,’ type missions.

Can anybody participate in Seasonal Challenges?

Yes, any Clash of Clans player can participate in seasonal challenges. However, you’ll have to buy a Gold season pass to access the most exciting goodies on offer.

How long is a season in Clash of Clans?

A Clash of Clans season runs from the first day of the calendar month to the last.

How much do Season Passes cost?

The Silver Seasonal Challenge tier is free, but access to the premium gold tier requires a Gold season pass costing $4.99 (or the local equivalent of 500 in-game Gems).

Season passes can be purchased at any time of the month and you’ll be able to retroactively collect rewards. However, you’ll benefit from certain rewards (like specific boosters) for a longer period if you buy a pass early.

Passes also don’t renew, so you’ll have to buy a new one each month if you want access to the gold tier.

What rewards do Seasonal Challenges offer?

Silver tier players have a total of 15 rewards available to collect throughout the season, including magic items and potions. At the end of the season, silver players can also claim up to 5m Gold/Elixir and 50k Dark Elixir from the Season Bank (more on that below).

Those with a Gold pass can claim 30 rewards, including magic items, a 20 percent boosts for building, research, and troop training speeds (a significant reason to be excited about the Season Challenges alone), as well as up to 25m Gold/Elixir and 250k Dark Elixir at the end of season.

Additionally, Gold pass owners will have access to an exclusive new Hero Skin every month, the first being the Barbarian King Skin below:

What’s this about a Season Bank?

Throughout the month, an equal amount of any gold, elixir, and dark elixir you earn is also pooled in a deposit called the Season Bank. The resources stored here will then be added automatically to your normal village storage when the season ends.

Any resources you earn above the cap mentioned in the rewards section above will not be stored in the Season Bank (but you’ll still earn them once to your village storage as per usual).

The introduction of Seasonal Challenges seems like a smart move from Supercell as it creates another revenue stream without causing too much disruption to its fanbase. Of course non-paying players may be disappointed that they can’t access the new skins, but regular Clash of Clans spenders should be well-pleased: the chance to receive all these extra goodies for the regular price of 500 gems seems like a no-brainer.
