Android Auto to be available on all future Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles

Over the weekend, a rumor surfaced that Toyota had finally agreed to include Android Auto in its vehicles after coming to a deal with Google. While this hasn’t been made official, a spokesperson for Jaguar and Land Rover told MacRumors that the two manufacturers will offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in all 2019 cars and beyond.

But as with most good news, there’s a caveat. Unlike some companies that just make Android Auto standard, Jaguar and Land Rover will offer it as an extra option for the InControl Touch Pro and Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems. What this means is that customers will have to pay at least $280 to have Android Auto made available in their cars.

There is a silver lining though as Jaguar and Land Rover are only charging a one-time fee. Instead of only paying $280+ for the option, customers could be paying an annual fee like BMW makes its users do to have the ability to use Apple CarPlay in their vehicles.

For current Jaguar and Land Rover owners, the spokesperson was able to confirm that dealerships would soon be able to retroactively activate Android Auto in older vehicles. All that’s required is that the cars have the compatible infotainment systems installed.
