If you want to watch a video on Android Auto, there are ways to do it. Xtream Player, which recently added support for Plex Live TV and fixed bugs for YouTube playback, is a crowd favorite. But even Xtream Player won’t let you watch your Netflix shows. However, a new app promises to fill in that Netflix-shaped hole in your Android Auto media needs.
A developer has announced the release of a new Android Auto app called Velvet Launcher. According to the developer, this app launches a browser inside of Android Auto. Not just any browser, however, a special version of Chrome that acts similarly to the desktop version. Through this browser, you’ll be able to access Netflix or other media.
Before you rush off to install this app, know that it is still early in development. The developer says that the app is working for them, but warns that different setups can provide different results.
If you want to give Velvet Launcher a chance, you’ll need to install it with AAenabler or Kinginstaller. Android Auto developer settings will also need to be enabled with unknown sources ticked. Once installed, you’ll be given a 10-minute trial to see if the app works on your setup. After that, you’ll need to donate if you want unlimited access to Velvet Launcher.
Additionally, the developer says that if you also tried to install the app with Shizuku enabled and it didn’t work, you can request a beta test link on their website. There are also a couple of known bugs and limitations, which include slight audio sync issues and issues with logging into browser accounts.
