Google Maps navigation glitch is driving Android Automotive users crazy
Aug 19, 2026 — 11:18 AM ET

- Android Automotive users are having trouble with Google Maps.
- A bug is causing navigation to reroute endlessly.
- The issue appears to be affecting the Polestar brand primarily, but other vehicle owners are running into the same glitch.
Google recently fixed a Maps issue that prevented traffic data from showing up. While that problem is no longer a concern, a new issue has now emerged. This problem deals with navigation rerouting and affects Android Automotive users.
A Polestar 2 owner has posted on Reddit, highlighting an issue with Google Maps navigation. Specifically, when navigation is active, Google Maps will attempt to reroute endlessly. Despite resetting the system, it appears that the bug still persists.
Several fellow Polestar owners have chimed in on the discussion thread, confirming that they have run into the same problem. However, the problem does not seem to be exclusive to the Polestar vehicles. A Honda owner also replied to the thread, claiming they are having a similar experience.
While this bug could be a case of GPS error, the users rule out this possibility. The original poster explains that the GPS isn’t jumping around when parked. GPS is also working fine when Google Maps is not running. The user does note that the problem started after updating to Gemini.
One commenter did offer a fix that sorted out the issue for their vehicle. According to the user, they hit every clear cache and delete memory button they could find. After restarting Google Maps, they claim the bug disappeared.
It’s unclear what exactly is causing the rerouting bug on Android Automotive. Android Authority has reached out to Google for comment. When new information becomes available, we’ll update this article.
