Android N will soon get a real name
Android has announced via Twitter that the new name for Android N will be unveiled in the next few weeks. This announcement is accompanied by a video one John Smith, CEO of the fictional company Professional Naming Incorporated, explaining the different kinds of people who are capable of naming things in a Michael Scott-esque ramble devoid of content. A “few weeks” is a vague timeline, but we can expect to finally learn Android N’s name sometime around the end of June or early July.
Thanks for your submissions. We’ll reveal the new name in a few weeks! #NameAndroidNhttps://t.co/qLtDZJNe9y— Android (@Android) June 8, 2016
No clues yet on what the leading choice for the name is. At Google I/O, devs revealed that they were reluctant to name the version Namey McNameface (although team members working in Google’s language projects had no such qualms when they named the world’s most powerful English parser Parsey McParseface), so that one’s at least off the table. Historically Android versions have been named after dessert foods, but many of the suggestions displayed on the naming page veer from this trope. We see entries such as Noodles and Naan, for instance.
What do you think Android N will eventually end up getting named? My money is on Nougat.
