Android Pay launching in the UK very soon
UK food outlet Pret A Manger now accepts Android Pay. The only problem is that Android Pay hasn’t officially launched in the UK. “We now accept Android Pay” tags have been attached to the company’s payment terminals and multiple other Android Pay mentions have been spotted online, leading to speculation that Android Pay will be launched any day now.
The Telegraph newspaper spoke to employees at one Pret A Manger store who said the labels arrived on Wednesday and have been displayed since Thursday morning. The staff didn’t seem to have any inside knowledge of when Android Pay would be officially announced. In March, Google promised Android Pay would land in the UK within a “few months” so it looks as though we’re in the home stretch now.
Other sightings of support for Android Pay have also been spotted in the UK, with HSBC posting an Android Pay help page (albeit with U.S. placeholder information for now) and Halifax also have a test page on their Android Pay URL. If you’re in the UK, let us know if you spot any other evidence of Android Pay and be on the lookout for an imminent release.
