Poll: Is your Android smartphone rooted?

One of the best things about Android phones is that you can customize them to a far greater extent than Apple’s iPhones. But you can also root your phone if you want even greater scope for customization, granting you lower level access to the phone’s system.

In saying so, we wonder how many people actually have rooted phones today. That’s the topic of our featured poll today, so let us know via the survey below.

Just to be clear, we’re asking whether your current daily driver is rooted rather than if you’ve got an old rooted phone in your drawer somewhere.

There are a few reasons to root your phone, with some apps (like backup and automation utilities) requiring it. Rooting is also necessary to make system-level changes like removing some forms of bloatware or tweaking the CPU clock speed.

Then again, there are a few drawbacks to rooting your phone. For one, many banking and payment apps don’t work on rooted devices without additional tweaking. Some forms of malware can also take advantage of root access to wreak havoc on your device.
