Android Wear 2.8 update includes new system-wide dark theme, improved notifications (updated)
Update (01/22/18): Google has officially announced the Android Wear 2.8 update on its Android Wear help forums (via MobileSyrup).
According to the post, version 2.8 features improved notification glanceability with a new layout, which allows you to see more of your message at a glance. Additionally, the background of the OS has been made darker for better readability.
Original article (01/18/18): Android Wear may not be getting a ton of love from Google in terms of adding new features, but the smartwatch OS is still an active project. Today, reports started coming in that some Android Wear devices got a new update to Android Wear version 2.8 that adds a new system-wide dark theme.
The update was first reported by Reddit users today, (via Android Central), and should please smartwatch owners who want to ditch the more familiar grey color theme. It certainly looks nice and could become a favorite for users.
The bad news is that the Android Wear 2.8 update may be limited to smartwatches that have a AMOLED display. Reddit users have reported the dark theme is available for the HUAWEI Watch 2, along with the original HUAWEI Watch. It’s unknown if any other watches will be able to get this new theme.
If you are lucky enough to have installed this latest Android Wear update on your smartwatch, what do you think of this dark theme?
