Apple targets Google Nest in major smart home expansion
Oct 13, 2026 — 11:23 AM ET
- Apple has announced the Apple Home Collection, a new lineup of smart home products.
- The lineup includes indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors, a video doorbell, and a door lock.
- All of the products will become available this December, with select accessories releasing in early 2027.
Apple has historically struggled to compete with the likes of Google and Amazon for smart home dominance. Despite those struggles, it’s long been reported that Apple is interested in changing that narrative, with plans for a renewed push in the category. Recently, it was rumored that the Cupertino-based firm had partnered with LG Electronics to take on this challenge. A leak from last week even provided a first glimpse at a few of the products the two were cooking up. Today, we’re seeing the results of that work, as Apple has announced a new lineup of smart home devices to take on Google’s Nest ecosystem.
This new lineup of smart home products will be known as the Apple Home Collection. For this launch, the initial wave of devices includes indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors, a video doorbell, and a door lock. Apple says that each item is managed through the Apple Home app, so no separate app or account is required.
Without further ado, here are the devices included in the Apple Home Collection:
- LG Video Doorbell ($249.95): Includes a dual camera setup to capture separate views of visitors and packages. The front camera records in 2.5K resolution, while the bottom camera records in full HD.
- LG Floodlight Cam ($399.95): Includes dual floodlights that activate automatically when motion is detected. Also offers low-light color vision.
- LG Outdoor Cam ($299.95): Offers low-light color night vision and can be angled.
- LG Indoor Cam ($199.95): This indoor camera automatically tilts upward and downward to adjust the view when users check in. It will also tilt fully down to stop monitoring after the first member of the household returns.
- LG Smart Deadbolt Lock ($349.95): This lock uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to tell how close a user is, allowing it to automatically unlock without the need for tapping. However, you can also tap your phone or smartwatch to unlock if you want. It also features an integrated PIN pad and a hidden backup key slot.
According to Apple, each camera works with iCloud Plus. Users will have 10 days’ worth of event video history. If you have an eligible iCloud Plus plan, Apple Intelligence will add automatic video descriptions to clips. You’ll also be able to use the AI to search for footage with natural language.
As it turns out, LG isn’t the only company Apple teamed up with. The tech giant also co-developed a product with Schneider Electric. This gives you two options for Apple’s Nest Learning Thermostat rival.
- LG Smart Thermostat ($199.95): Taking a cue from Google’s Nest Learning Thermostat, this device has a near-borderless circular design. And it can be paired with LG’s sensors ($39.95) to read temperature and humidity across multiple rooms.
- Schneider Home’s Smart Thermostat ($199.95): Schneider Electric’s thermostat features a near-borderless square design. It can also be paired with sensors ($39.95) to read temperature and humidity across multiple rooms.
The Apple Home Collection is scheduled to become available this December. However, select accessories will be released in early 2027. You’ll be able to find these products on Apple’s website, as well as on the Apple Store app and at Apple Store locations.
