ASUS announces October 18 NYC event for ROG Phone (Update: Pricing confirmed)
Update, October 9, 2018 (1:08PM EST): We speculated that the upcoming October 18 event from ASUS would center on the ASUS ROG Phone, and it turns out we were right. Now we know, via Anandtech, that the device will (finally!) launch for pre-order in the U.S. on October 18. It will cost $899 for the 128GB model and $1,099 for the 512GB version.
We will post more information about the launch of the ROG Phone on October 18!
Original Article, October 4, 2018 (3:52AM EST): It feels like an eternity since the ASUS ROG Phone was first announced at Computex. We’ve seen loads of phones since then, but it seems like the manufacturer is finally getting ready to launch the gaming-focused handset.
The company is holding an October 18 event in New York, according to an image posted by the ASUS North America Twitter account. The background shows the ROG Phone, which all but confirms that the device will make an appearance at the event.

Hopefully, this is a U.S. or global launch event with price/release details rather than a hands-on event with no real information. After all, it’s been exactly four months since the phone was first announced, so we’re way overdue for a wider release.
If this is indeed a launch event, ASUS would be joining the likes of Huawei, Google, LG, OnePlus, HMD Global, and Razer in holding launches this month.
The ROG Phone is shaping up to be an almighty gaming smartphone, offering an overclocked Snapdragon 845 chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 512GB of storage, a 4,000mAh battery, ultrasonic shoulder triggers, and two USB Type-C ports.
ASUS is also offering a boat-load of peripherals for the new phone, including a Nintendo DS-style shell, a heat-sink accessory, and a dock.
