TL;DR
  • AYN has confirmed that the upcoming Odin 3 Portal handheld has a Dragonwing Q8 chip and a 9,000mAh battery.
  • The Q8 chip appeared in the Odin 3 and is effectively the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset without a cellular modem.
  • There’s still no word on pricing or availability just yet.

AYN confirmed last week that the Odin 3 Portal was coming, succeeding the well-received Odin 2 Portal. We expected this to be a powerhouse Android handheld, and the company has now revealed some core specs.

AYN announced in a YouTube video that the Odin 3 Portal will be equipped with a Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 processor and a 9,000mAh battery. Check out the video below.

The Dragonwing Q8 is effectively the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset without a cellular modem. It’s not the newest flagship Snapdragon processor, but it’s still an extremely powerful chip. We’re not surprised to see this chip in the Odin 3 Portal, either, as the Odin 3 had the same silicon. Furthermore, the Odin 2 and Odin 2 Portal also shared the same chip.

Otherwise, we’re happy to see a 9,000mAh battery here. This would be 1,000mAh more than the Odin 2 Portal and Odin 3 batteries. Of course, the Odin 3 Portal has a larger screen than the Odin 3, but this is still good news if you want longer endurance. AYN also confirmed that the Odin 3 Portal will have full-sized Hall Effect analog sticks, rear paddle buttons, and analog triggers.

There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet, but I imagine that this new Android handheld could be at least $50 to $100 more expensive than the $369 Odin 3. Blame AI companies for driving up the cost of RAM and other associated components.
