The Google Pixel family is generally considered to have class-leading photo quality, even if they don’t have as many cameras and features as rival flagships. Unfortunately, it seems like many Pixel 2 users are reporting that the Google Camera app is broken on their devices.

Android Authority reader Reginald Lockhart tipped us off to a variety of one-star reviews by Pixel 2 owners on the Google Camera Play Store listing over the past several months.

“Camera stopped working with last update. I’m not the only one. Fix this mess Google or I’m not getting another of your devices again. I have a Pixel 2,” read one user’s review.

“App used to work great on my Pixel 2. Soon after the last update it stopped working. It won’t even open. I’ll change it to many more stars after it’s fixed, as I used to love using the camera,” noted another user, adding that the camera briefly worked again for a day before reverting to its broken state.

“Camera doesn’t work in Pixel 2, app crashes. It gives a black screen and stops,” reads yet another review from a Pixel 2 owner.

It’s not immediately clear what caused the Pixel 2 Google Camera app to stop working, but it seems like most affected Pixel 2 users are pointing to a recent firmware update as the cause of the problem. In fact, several redditors suggest it’s likely due to the December or January updates.

Furthermore, the Play Store user reviews and Pixel Phone Help forum show that the problem has plagued Pixel 2 owners for several months now.

We’ve contacted Google for a statement on the matter and to find out whether a fix is coming. We’ll update the article if/when the search giant gets back to us. Are you a Pixel 2 owner suffering from this issue? Let us know in the comments.
