There are literally dozens of units of measurement and a lot of them are more or less interchangeable. There are a lot of reasons to convert between units. People who build things, people who bake, and students are among the top users for unit converter. However, there are also a lot of different types of conversions. You can convert measurements, money, and even text. Whatever you want to convert, we can help. Here are the best unit converters for Android.
The best currency and unit converters for Android
All-In-One Caluclator
Price: Free / $4.99
All-In-One Calculator is a simple name, but it’s one of the better unit converters. It has some basic calculator functions along with some more complicated stuff for academia. Along with it are a ton of unit and currency conversions. It boasts support for 160 currencies, various mathematical and measurement conversions, and even simpler stuff like cooking conversions. It should cover most bases. We also like the single price tag for the full version instead of a subscription.
All-In-One Unit Converter
Price: Free / $0.99
All-In-One Unit Converter tries to get it all done in a single app. It boasts measurement and currency conversion along with various converters for more niche needs. It includes a simple, attractive UI, over 2,000 units of measurement in 75 different categories, and more. The vast majority of the app is usable offline. You only need Internet access to update currency exchange rates. This is another one that should do what you need and its premium version is relatively inexpensive.
ClevCalc
Price: Free / $5.49
ClevCalc is an excellent calculator app and also one of the better unit converters on mobile. The general calculator function works as expected with tools for most types of math. You also get 135 currencies from around the world, most popular types of unit conversions, and even a world time converter. Some other functions include an ovulation calculator, a hexadecimal converter, an a quick sales tax calculator. There are just a ton of uses for this one. The premium version is a bit pricier than most. However, you get what you pay for.
Convert Units
Price: Free
Convert Units is one of the best free unit converters on Android. It boasts over 100 units of measurement, including distance, area, volume, mass, temperature, and more. The UI is simple to use as well. Simply select the unit you want converted and then enter the amount. There are also widgets for unit conversions you use most often. There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles, but the price is free and there are no ads with this one.
Elite
Price: Free / $2.99
Elite is both a calculator and a converter. It boasts 86 categories and over 2,000 units to convert between. It also includes a currency coverter and some basic calculator stuff. This one goes the extra mile with stuff like a loan calculator, history deletion for privacy, and even a built-in compass. You also get some themes to choose from. The UI is delightfully modern and easy to use. There really isn’t anything wrong with this one. It’s all around just good.
Equate
Price: Free
Equate is another one of the better free unit converters on Android. It also sports a basic calculator for decent two-in-one use. The app supports several different units, including common ones like currency, cryptocurrency, temperature, weight, and others. There is also an inflation calculator that is quite fun. There are also some little extras like copy, cut, and paste functionality. Some people reported some compatibility issues, but it’s pretty good for a completely free app.
Financial Calculators
Price: Free / $4.99
This one is arguably the best financial calculator on mobile. You can calculate all kinds of stuff like various loans, mortgage tax savings, 401k contributions, credit card payments, and other stuff. It won’t convert pounds to grams, but it does have a currency converter. We like this one because it’s a one-stop-shop for financial calculations and the currency converter is a cherry on top. Everything is available offline. You only need to connect to update the currency conversion rates.
Google Search
Price: Free
There are many great unit converters. However, many people simply turn to a simple Google Search query. It works perfectly fine. You can convert almost anything you can think of. That includes things like currency and cryptocurrency. It’s doable one of two ways. You can open your favorite browser, head to Google, and type in your query. Alternatively, you can just use Google Assistant and ask for a conversion. This should work for most things. However, folks who need a history of their previous calculations may be better serviced with a different app on the list.
Smart Tools Unit Converter
Price: Free / $2.50
Smart Tools is a developer on Google Play with a variety of tools. One of them happens to be a unit converter. The UI feels a little bit old, but otherwise the app works perfectly well. Some of the features include four categories, various units to convert between, and currency conversion as well. The free version has advertising that people seem to not enjoy, but the premium version isn’t too expensive. Our only complaint is we hope future updates bring even more units of measurement to convert.
Text Converter
Price: Free / $0.99
Text Converter is a bit of a wild card on this list. It does conversions, but not the kind you’re thinking of. It can translate text to various other types of text. We’re not talking about language translation. Instead, it’ll convert standard text to ASCII, binary, hex, octal, and various others. You can also do quirky things like Morse Code, add various text styles, and even those fun decorative texts you see online sometimes. It’s the only converter on the list that does this and we included it because it’s a different type of conversion.
Bonus: Unit Converter Ultimate
Price: Free
Unit Converter Ultiamte came up a lot during my research for this article. It’s an app on F-Droid so you have to use F-Droid to download and install it. The app comes with a variety of conversions, including currency conversion. The UI is super basic, but functional and fairly easy to use. It aims to keep things as simple as possible so you can just convert your stuff and get on with your life. The app is entirely free, open source, and it works on versions of Android as far back as 4.0.
