Voloco best karaoke apps for Android

Karaoke is a popular activity. People go to bars, sing to their favorite songs, and enjoy themselves. It’s possible to do it at home as well. However, the process is a little more complicated. Luckily, smartphones can help bridge the gap. You may still need some speakers or something but your phone is perfectly capable as a karaoke machine. Here are the best karaoke apps for Android. These are also the best free karaoke apps since almost every karaoke app has a free version.

We’d also like to give Google Maps (Google Play) an honorable mention. You can use it to find karaoke bars or places that sell karaoke equipment. It deviates from the purpose of the list, but it’s an obvious choice for those who want to find karaoke venues around them. There is also an excellent site called Karaoke Version (link) that sells backing tracks to tons of songs for $2.99. You can download them and use them in your own karaoke setup.

The best karaoke apps for Android

BackTrackIt

Price: Free / $4.00

BackTrackIt  is a different kind of karaoke app. It’s technically for musicians who play instruments. You can put in your own tracks, have the app delete a specific instrument, and try to play it on your own. That’s one of many features of this app. It also lets you just jam to random backing tracks, see key changes, and slow down or speed up the music so you can play at your own rate. We always try to include a wildcard in our lists and this one is it.

KaraFun

Price: Free / $6.99 per week / $8.99 per month

KaraFun is a simpler karaoke app. It features a bunch of songs from a bunch of real artists. You simply select the song you want and sing it. The app also records you as you sing so you can listen to it again later. Some other features include Chromecast support, multiple vocal tracks, an offline mode, and a favorites function to find your favorite songs quickly. It offers a weekly subscription and it’s way too expensive. We recommend trying the free version and then probably using the monthly subscription price if you go with this one.

MiXiT

Price: Free / $6.49 per month / $64.99 per year

MiXiT is a karaoke app with a social element. It features a bunch of hit songs from various artists. You can sing, record, and even do a video of you singing the song. This one also lets you upload your own music and the app’s vocal remover function lets you sing it yourself. It functions about as you would expect, although you’ll need a speaker or something to do throw a party with it. The monthly subscription is also quite a bit less than many competitors.

Musixmatch

Price: Free / $4.99 per month / $45.99 per year

Musixmatch is a good option for DIY karaoke setups. The app can find the lyrics to basically any song and scroll the lyrics as the song plays. This is a great app for home karaoke setups. It’ll also sync with Spotify, YoUTube, Pandora, Apple Music, and other services to show you the lyrics at the same time as the song. It doesn’t remove anything from the tracks, though, so you’ll be singing along rather than singing alone.

Smule

Price: Free / $19.99 per month / $49.99 per year

Smule is one of the most popular karaoke apps on mobile. It has a rather large community with a very strong social element. You can sing along to various songs, upload them to your profile, and get followers. You can also follow others and listen or watch them sing. The app also includes customizable profiles, various vocal effects, and a large library of available songs. It works well enough except for the occasional upload bug. Our only major complaint is the price tag. It obviously wants you to pay for a yearly subscription at $49.99 per year. It does this by charging an obscene $19.99 per month. Luckily, the free version has enough features to properly test and use the app without needing to buy anything for a long time.

StarMaker

Price: Free with in-app purchases / $4.99 per month / $29.99 per year

StarMaker is another one of the more popular karaoke apps. It competes favorably with Smule. It features a community aspect where you can share and view singing videos. Additionally, it comes with a large library of content, easy controls, and even little things like pitch correction. Hey, we all can’t be Demi Lovato right? This one also has live streaming and some other neat tools. Most complaints are connectivity issues, but otherwise, the app seems to work pretty well. It’s also way more reasonable in terms of price at $4.99 per month.

The Voice

Price: Free / $19.99 per month

The Voice is an up-and-coming karaoke app. It lets users record themselves singing songs for sharing in various places. There is also a pretty decent free version along with a strong social element. You can duet with people from all over the world, watch other people sing, and all of that. Some folks have problems getting their voices to sound right, but that may be user error since our testing worked just fine. Our only complaint, and it seems to be a common one in this space, is the absurd monthly subscription rate.

Voloco

Price: Free / $7.99 per month / $39.99 per year

Voloco is another simpler karaoke app. There is a decent library of songs from several different genres. You can record yourself singing with a bunch of vocals presets in case you want them. That’s basically it with this one. You sing songs, record them, export them, tweak them with vocal presets, and enjoy yourself. The subscription is competitive comparatively if you want all of the features.

Yokee

Price: Free / $29.99 per month / $59.99 per year

Yokee is a very good app for karaoke if you can get over the sticker shock. It has a very large selection of songs, the ability to record yourself singing them, and a platform to share them. The app also includes its own auto-tune in case your voice can’t hit every high note perfectly. The free version is pretty decent. That’s good news since the monthly subscription is the highest on the list. Those who are considering going premium should probably opt for the yearly subscription since you’ll save a couple hundred dollars.

YouTube

Price: Free / $12.99 per month

YouTube is a surprisingly good platform for karaoke. There are a ton of channels that upload various songs without the main vocals. We did a cursory search on YouTube for 20 or so popular songs from several genres and found karaoke-style videos for all of them. This is obviously best for home karaoke setups. Most karaoke videos on YouTube also have lyrics so you can use it both as a lyrics reference and song vehicle. The ads can be a bit annoying, but even its $12.99 per month price tag is more reasonable than some karaoke apps competitors.
