The best phones with 8GB of RAM: What are your options?
It wasn’t long ago that 8GB of RAM was considered massive for phones. It was even considered a lot for computers. Now, smartphones offer 12GB, 16GB, and even more. While the latter 16GB and above is arguably overkill, more RAM is never bad, especially if you plan to keep your handset for several years. More RAM doesn’t necessarily mean your phone is future-proof, but it certainly helps.
If you’re in the market for a phone with 8GB RAM, you’ll be happy to hear there are quite a few of them to choose from — check out the best ones below.
The best phones with 8GB of RAM:
Editor’s note: We will regularly update this list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM as new devices launch.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series
Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 family is out, bringing three distinct models. These are the Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. The good news is all can be had in 8GB RAM versions. The only difference in RAM amount is with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which can also be upgraded to 12GB.
There are plenty of other similarities between Galaxy S23 variants. These all come with a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, Android 13 out of the box, Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays with a 120Hz refresh rate, an IP68 rating, and similar design languages.
Of course, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is the smallest of the bunch, featuring a 6.1-inch screen. It also has the smallest battery at 3,900mAh. The Galaxy S23 Plus has a larger 6.6-inch display and a 4,700mAh battery. These also come with a triple camera setup, using a 50MP primary sensor.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra goes all out with the largest 6.8-inch display and an upgraded QHD+ resolution. It also features a 5,000mAh battery and an improved 200MP main sensor.
All phones are amazing, so you can’t go wrong with any of them.
Beautiful display
S Pen functionality
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 power
Bigger battery
Xiaomi 13 series
There are very few worthy Samsung Galaxy S23 competitors, and the Xiaomi 13 series is one of them. These devices are built with demanding users in mind, featuring great designs and powerful specs. They’re definitely among the best phones with 8GB of RAM you can find.
Both the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro come with a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 8-12GB of RAM, and as much as 512GB of storage.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a slightly more premium experience, though. It offers a larger 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a QHD+ resolution, a slightly larger 4,820mAh battery, and three 50MP cameras. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 13 still offers premium features like a 6.36-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Full HD+ resolution, a 4,500mAh battery, and a single 50MP sensor, paired with a couple of secondary cameras with 12MP and 10MP resolutions.
The only downside with the Xiaomi 13 series is that the devices weren’t released in the USA. They’re available globally, though, and it’s relatively easy to import one.
Really fast charging
Great design
Samsung Galaxy A54 5G
Samsung’s affordable 5G smartphones pack more punch than ever, especially with the launch of the Galaxy A54. It may not look too different from its predecessor, the A52 5G, but there’s not much more you could ask for in a $450 phone.
The A54 features a Super AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Then there’s the camera setup, headlined by an impressive 50MP shooter. You also get dual-SIM capabilities, with the second slot doubling as a microSD card slot, but the headphone jack is no more. The 5,000mAh battery also comfortably lasts through an entire day and beyond. Once you drain the battery, you can tap into 25W fast charging to get back on the go.
The Galaxy A54 is available with 6GB of RAM in the US for now, and we hope that the 8GB version will join it soon. There’s no word on when that may happen, though. However, the international model comes with 8GB of RAM and is also available on Amazon — but it costs a bit more.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
Samsung’s other premium foldable takes on the clamshell market in the form of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. While the Fold might take a lot of the headlines, this is the one to buy if you’re ready to test out a relatively affordable foldable phone. It’s also the only recent Samsung foldable you can get with 8GB of RAM.
The Flip 5 offers excellent build quality, with a premium exterior finish and a 6.7-inch internal display. The external display is completely redesigned with a new name — the Flex Window — and a larger size. On the inside, you’ll find a powerful Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 For Galaxy processor leading the charge, with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage backing it up.
There are two 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP front-facing camera. The handset also comes with a 3,700mAh battery and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the most affordable folding option from Samsung, so it just might be the springboard that the company needs to reach the masses.
Sony Xperia 5 V
This is one of the two best phones you can currently get from Sony. The Xperia 5 V offers high-end specs as well as loads of bells and whistles power users will enjoy. This includes 8GB of RAM paired with either 128 or 256GB of space.
You get an excellent Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a potent processor, a headphone jack, and even a microSD card slot. The battery comes in at 5,000mAh and supports 30W charging, getting it up to 50% in 30 minutes, according to Sony. It’s a great phone for creators, offering super camera autofocus, stellar video capture, and a few unique content-creator apps.
Sony’s handset also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, wireless charging, and a 21:9 aspect ratio that makes it quite tall and slim. The biggest drawback of the device is its price, which is above that of the competition.
OnePlus 11
The OnePlus 11 has its downsides, such as the lack of wireless charging, an IP64 rating, and a lackluster camera system. That said, it offers a premium experience elsewhere at a pretty good price point. It also happens to make it to our list of the best phones with 8GB of RAM.
The design is gorgeous, and the 6.7-inch LTPO3 Fluid AMOLED display is stunning. It also offers excellent performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 packed inside. And if 8GB of RAM isn’t enough for you, the phone can be configured with up to a whopping 16GB of RAM.
Other specs include a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged at 100W (80W in the US), a triple camera setup, and Android 13 out-of-the-box.
Google Pixel 8
Just like its predecessor, Google’s latest Pixel 8 comes with either 128 or 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.
The 2023 flagship is a solid upgrade over its predecessor and remains one of the best-value phones on the market, despite a $100 price increase. It offers a great camera system, a clean software experience, plenty of power, and a design that turns heads. The bigger Pixel 8 Pro is a better phone overall but comes with more RAM.
Google’s charging is slowly but surely picking up speed, and the Pixel 8 is as refined as ever. It only sports two rear cameras, making the photography experience less versatile than what you get with phones like the Pixel 8 Pro, but the Tensor G3 makes up for it with plenty of power.
ASUS Zenfone 10
The ASUS Zenfone 10 is for those who want a pretty capable device with a small form factor. It comes in many RAM versions, among which there is an option for getting 8GB. You can upgrade to as much as 16GB or downgrade to 6GB.
Other specs include a small 5.9-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a 4,300mAh battery, and an IP68 rating. It’s also relatively affordable!
The phone is great. We enjoyed its performance and design, as well as the audio it produces. And while it gets hot while gaming and the camera isn’t great, it has a lot going for it.
POCO X5 Pro
Like the idea of a capable phone, but don’t want to spend a ton of cash? Well, that’s where the POCO X5 Pro starts at €349.99, but you’ll have to pay €399.99 if you want the version with 8GB of RAM. That makes it cheaper than most other phones on the list.
You’ll also get a Snapdragon 778G processor, which is pretty powerful for the price you pay. We really enjoyed the slim and light design, as well as the primary camera. And if you don’t want to spend too much time tethered to the wall, you’ll love to hear the battery life is great, thanks to the 5,000mAh battery.
The screen is also pretty good. It has a 6.67-inch panel with a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. We wish Xiaomi had taken things easier on the bloatware, and the IP53 rating isn’t great, but this phone still provides plenty of value.
OPPO Find N3 Flip
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is excellent, but the OPPO Find N3 Flip is giving it a run for its money. This foldable device looks and feels fantastic, thanks to its exquisite design. We also love its larger 3.6-inch external display — even if it’s no longer the largest, most feature-rich option on the market, all-day battery life, and nearly unnoticeable display crease.
Of course, we listed it here because it’s one of the best phones with 8GB of RAM. If that isn’t enough, you can also upgrade to 12GB or 16GB.
Other specs include a nice 6.8-inch screen with a Foldable LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Dimensity 9200 Plus processor, a 4,300mAh battery, and a triple camera setup — yes, three cameras on a clamshell.
There you have it. These are our picks for the best phones with 8GB RAM, although there are quite a few others out there to choose from. We’ll add new devices as they launch, so check back often.
