Bill Gates is using a foldable and it's not the Surface Duo 2
- Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has revealed that he owns and uses a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
- Gates gave the answer in a Reddit AMA when asked about his current phone.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is one of the most recognizable foldable phones on the market, offering a tablet-sized display on the inside when unfolded and a smartphone screen on the outside when folded.
It turns out the Samsung foldable has at least one high-profile fan, as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates revealed in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) that he indeed owns a Galaxy Z Fold 3.
“I have an Android Galaxy Z Fold 3. I try different ones. With this screen I can get by with a great portable PC and the phone and nothing else,” he said in response to a question about his current phone.
It’s interesting to see Gates toting a Galaxy Z Fold 3 instead of Microsoft’s own Surface Duo 2, but Samsung and Microsoft have a long partnership in the mobile space. For one, Galaxy phones have long offered a variety of pre-installed Microsoft apps. Furthermore, the Your Phone service that enables connectivity between Windows and Android also has a number of exclusive features for Galaxy phones (e.g. transferring content, phone screen functionality).
This partnership also extends to the foldable arena, as Samsung and Microsoft announced last year that the pre-installed Office, Outlook, and Teams apps would get foldable enhancements on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. So there’s definitely a lot of synergy between the two companies in the mobile arena.
