BlackBerry Messenger to support Android Wear smartwatches soon
As part of its CES press event, BlackBerry has announced that its popular BlackBerry Messenger service will soon also support a wide range of Android Wear smartwatches.
As you would expect, this means that your standard BBM notifications can now be sent straight to your wrist. Android Wear BBM features include, viewing new messages, managing invites from would-be contacts, browsing your addresses book, and pre-defined messages should you need a quick response. BlackBerry Messenger also plays nicely with voice commands and Google Now, which is great if you need to respond to messages hands-free.
BlackBerry also recently updated its standard BBM Android app with a few new features and support for Android 5.0 Lollipop.
BlackBerry states that Android Wear support is just the first step on its mission to cater for cross-platform wearable technology, so eventually most wearable owners will be able to use BlackBerry Messenger on the go. No exact release date has been given, other than “soon”, but we’ll keep you posted.
