B&O Play renews collaboration with LG for premium audio on the V20
LG knows that we want to know more about the its potential killer phablet, set to launch on Sept. 6th. The company is no stranger to slipping little teasers leading up to a smartphone launch, and the V20 is certainly no exception. We already know that it will be the first released device with Android Nougat (yes, beating the new Nexuses to the punch) and that an updated Quad 32-bit DAC holds the promise for some glorious, unrivaled audio from a smartphone.
Despite LG renewing its collaboration with ESS Technology on the internals, B&O (Bang & Olufsen) doesn’t want you to forget that it and LG once also shared a Hi-Fi moment. Recalling the mix-ly received LG G5 and its modular functionality, B&O supplied the Hi-Fi Plus module meant to take over the phone’s sound processing for higher quality headphone output – which never came to the US. Since the V20 will already have a Hi-Fi DAC built in, the companies worked out another way to keep the ball rolling.
An announcement today from LG spilled that the B&O will still play a part in its premium audio story. The V20 will include a ‘special’ pair of B&O PLAY earphones. These supposedly won’t just be off-the-shelf earphones, as it’s suggested the match is tuned for the best sound through ‘optimizing the audio capabilities of the V20’. The phone will also come with custom B&O PLAY wallpapers, for those who’d like to show off the fact.
Does LG’s serious focus on audio quality have you excited about the V20? Are the B&O earphones a big plus, or do you plan to use your own Hi-Fi headphones?
