You can now pre-order BOOX's tiniest e-reader yet

Over the last several months, tiny e-readers have become more common, especially the ones that stick to the back of a phone with built-in magnets. The allure is simple: tiny e-readers, such as the Xteink X4, take up minimal space in your pocket or backpack while also offering a break from frantically refreshing hi-res displays on phones. BOOX (officially Onyx BOOX), one of the biggest names in e-readers, is entering the tiny-screen segment with an entire “Tiles” series. The first, BOOX Picco, was teased in July, revealed at IFA 2026, and is now up for pre-orders.

While BOOX Palma has been the smallest device from the brand, the Picco is shrunk further down to a screen size of under four inches and a footprint no bigger than a credit card. More accurately, it features a 3.97-inch ePaper touch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. For a screen of its size, that’s fairly sharp. Like BOOX’s bigger models, it lets you adjust the frontlight’s warmth for more comfortable nighttime reading.

Although the BOOX Picco supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, it serves mostly as an e-reader and lacks the flexibility of its bigger siblings. That’s because the Picco skips Android and instead runs a custom interface with a handful of apps, though they’re useful. These include To-do, countdown, and a Pomodoro timer. BOOX doesn’t mention the ability to install more apps in the future, but it does let you customize the wallpaper.

Besides Wi-Fi, users can transfer books to the Picco via USB-C or a microSD card. The e-reader comes with a 16GB card in the box, but you can expand storage to up to 2TB.

Physically, the device weighs 58 grams and includes a magnetic case that attaches to the back of phones or other magnetic surfaces. It houses a 920mAh battery, which should last a few days, if not weeks.

Starting today, you can pre-order on BOOX’s site for $99.99. Shipping starts around the end of October, so you should have yours by early November, depending on the number of orders.
