Original voice of GLaDOS returns for Bridge Constructor Portal (Updated)
Update (12/13/17): We’ve got some more news to bring you about Bridge Constructor Portal that will surely please fans. We now have confirmation that the original voice of GLaDOS, Ellen McLain, has returned for the new game. McLain’s portrayal of the killer AI from both Portal games is iconic to fans of the series.
This time around, GlaDOS is allegedly your friend instead of foe. GLaDOS will be your “friendly construction companion.”
Not only are we getting news about McLain, but we’re also getting some more details about the game. Headup Games says that it has collaborated with Valve to make the game feel true to the Portal franchise. It worked with the Portal team to ensure that dialog, sound effects, and test chamber names all made sense.
As a reminder, Bridge Constructor Portal hits Wednesday, December 20 on a plethora of platforms. On Android, it’ll run you $4.99.
Original article (12/6/17): One of the most unexpected game mashups ever is coming December 20 for Android and other platforms. Bridge Constructor Portal will blend the gameplay of creating physics-accurate bridges with the wacky sci-fi setting of the hugely popular Portal puzzle games.
Developed by ClockStone Software, in collaboration with Portal creator Valve, the game itself will be published by Headup Games for PC, Mac, Linux, and iOS in addition to Android. Game console versions are due in 2018. This will be the first Portal-related game that has been released for mobile platforms.
The rather brief press release didn’t offer much regarding details for Bridge Constructor Portal, saying only that it will merge the different materials and physical laws from the offices of Portal’s Aperture Labs with the Bridge Constructor gameplay. The three screenshots that were released give some sort of idea of what to expect. It looks like players will have to get across some very complicated bridge puzzles, using different elements from Portal, including the dimension warping Portals themselves, along with laser bridges and traps, colored goo that makes you move faster, and more.
Of course, it would not be a Portal game without the evil-yet-polite AI GLaDOS taunting your efforts. Based on the teaser trailer, “she” will be in full effect in Bridge Constructor Portal. It’s likely that she will tell you there’s a cake somewhere on your bridge building journey, but it’s almost certainly a lie.
Headup Games has not yet revealed a price for Bridge Constructor Portal, but we don’t expect it to be all that expensive.
So, who’s excited? Would you like to see Valve bring its two main Portal games over to Android at some point? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
