The Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL are two of the most contentious smartphones to launch this year. The standout features are no doubt the dual-camera setup and the new 90Hz display, but both phones come with some significant downsides depending on what type of user you are. They lack robust video features, their storage and batteries aren’t all that impressive, and the new face unlock system has a questionable security feature. They’re pricey, too, at least compared to some other flagships that have recently gone on sale.

That’s why we asked you if you were planning on buying the Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, or neither. Out of nearly 4,000 total votes, it’s clear Android Authority readers have some feelings about the new Google phones.

1,394 people said they’re not buying the Google Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL, making this far and away the most popular option in our poll. Second place goes to the more reserved crowd with 974 votes. These people are planning on waiting for full reviews to drop before making their decision.

888 people have already pre-ordered or are planning on pre-ordering the Pixel 4 XL, while 723 people are planning to pre-order or have already pre-ordered the smaller Pixel 4.

Here are some of the best comments from last week’s poll explaining why they voted the way that they did:

• Cancelled 2 orders and just got the pixel 3. Soli is going to be a joke, lack of fingerprint sensor is short-sighted, ram is low end. No way that it is an upgrade, especially for the price. A few tweaks to the camera is not enough.
• Unfortunately, the phones are “profiled” for the US market. Elsewhere, something won’t work – either Google Pay or Google Assistant or something … ¯\(◉‿◉)/¯. Technically they’re mid-level 🙄, and at those prices … NO. This is for phones, otherwise it seems to me that Google is currently focusing on the “ecosystem” where things are going well.
• Lol. neither
• It seems like a downgrade if you bought a phone within the last year or so. The camera is obviously going to offer a lot but after that I don’t see any reason to swap my current phone.
• Too bad… I was hoping to be able to switch to Pixel this time, but they just aren’t trying very hard to win me over.I have a 2 year old Galaxy S8 and it is spec-for-spec the same exact phone as the Pixel 4. Sure, there are some gimmicky new gesture sensors and a better facial recognition system (likely still more annoying than fingerprint unlock), but there’s just nothing to get excited about here. The screens are the same size and the bezels are larger on the Pixel. There’s a fancy new telephoto lens, but I’m not looking to take zoomed-in creeper shots; I much prefer the utility of an ultrawide lens, and my S8 (while not ultrawide) is still wider than the Pixel’s. There’s a little more RAM, but the S8 is not slow, and I’ll take my larger battery with still-reasonable battery life, plus expandable memory and a better selection of protective cases any day.This kind of stuff makes me wonder: does Google have a no-compete contract with Samsung? They’re certainly making more money off of licensing Android to the Korean giant than by developing their own half-assed devices…
• I actually don’t mind the design this time. The Pixel phones just never justify their price for me. For someone that doesn’t care much about camera performance. the Pixel doesn’t offer that much in my opinion at least.
