Is ChatGPT down for you? Here's what's going on (Update: Fixed)

- In addition to Claude and Grok, now OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Codex are experiencing problems.
- The company is currently attempting mitigation steps.

Original article, September 3, 2026 (12:05 PM ET): If you know and care about any AI agents, it sounds like you should probably be checking in on them this morning, as they are just dropping like flies, one by one. We’ve already told you about the problems both Claude and Grok are having, and now we’ve got one more to add to the list.
OpenAI shares that both Codex and ChatGPT are running into higher error rates than normal today.
The company has already managed to look into the issue, and implemented mitigation steps. Hopefully, that means that everything is already on the road to recovery, but engineers are still keeping an eye on the situation.
We’ll update you when OpenAI has any additional details to share, or hopefully sounds the all-clear.
