Building websites with ChatGPT just got faster and more collaborative

ChatGPT seems to get a new feature every other day. This time, OpenAI is turning its attention to ChatGPT Sites, which launched about three months ago and lets you create, host, and share websites and lightweight web apps just by describing what you want.

Until now, though, building one was mostly a solo affair. That’s changing with a new feature called Build Together, which lets you invite other people to work on the same Site. They can edit, save, and publish changes themselves, which should make the whole process much easier for teams. Say you’re putting together a website for a small event or building a quick tool for work. Instead of one person making every change while everyone else sends suggestions back and forth, everyone can jump in and work on it directly.

That collaboration doesn’t mean your project has to be visible to everyone, either. You can keep a Site completely private and give access only to specific people. This could be particularly useful for internal tools, early prototypes, or anything you want to work on with a few people before showing it to the rest of the world.

And while you’re building, you should spend less time waiting around. OpenAI says it has cut the time it takes to go from writing a prompt to deploying a Site roughly in half. If you’re experimenting with an idea and constantly making changes, that faster turnaround could make a noticeable difference.

OpenAI is also making it easier to see what’s happening behind the scenes. ChatGPT can now inspect the database connected to your Site, and other editors can view that data too. That could come in handy if you’ve built something that collects information, for example, and want to quickly check what’s actually being stored without digging through everything yourself.

Once you’re happy with what you’ve made, another welcome addition is custom domains. You can now connect your own domain to a ChatGPT Site, so something you’ve built for customers, colleagues, or friends doesn’t have to live at a generic address.

All of this makes Sites feel much more practical than it did at launch. You can build something faster, work on it with others, keep it private while you’re still building it, and give it a proper domain when it’s ready to share.
