Claude can now automatically choose which mode is best for you

Deciding among all the different AI tools and their respective models can already lead to choice fatigue. If you use Claude, it may add another layer of decision-making by making you choose between Chat and Cowork. Of the two, Chat executes tasks in a simpler chatbot interface, while Cowork offloads them to an autonomous agent that can work in the background. While it’s easy to choose between the two for simpler tasks, the decision may feel overwhelming when you’re working on a more complex task that requires extensive research or analysis.

To alleviate this pressure, Anthropic has decided to do away with the toggle in Claude entirely. In a blog post, the frontier lab noted that it was merging Chat and Cowork features, and Claude will be able to choose between the two on its own.

In addition to helping users with the big decision, Anthropic is also bringing Claude Design directly to the chat interface. With this feature, users can instruct the AI to output information in a document or display it more presentably in the form of Slides or a graphic through Design. All of these documents are easily editable right within the output window, and you don’t need to instruct Claude (and wait while it processes your request) to make minor changes.

If you’re unsure whether a regular text document or a deck with slides will display your information better, you can also let Claude choose the kind of Artifact on its own.

The change will roll out to Claude users on the web, desktop, and mobile apps over the coming weeks. There’s nothing to be done on their end, and the tweaked interface should show up on its own. Anthropic says automatic selection will be available only to Pro ($20 a month) and Max ($100 a month) subscribers.
