How to convert a PDF document to JPG

You may quite frequently get an image contained within a PDF file. Online stores, such as T-shirt print-on-demand stores, often ask for the desired shirt design to be sent to them as a high-resolution PDF. But what if you actually want the image as a JPG for your own files? Here’s how to convert a PDF into a JPG image, depending on which platform you’re using. We’ll look at Windows and Mac, as well as an online method.

How to convert a PDF to JPG on the web

If you Google “PDF to JPG convert”, you’ll get countless websites offering to do it for you for free. But it may not be a good idea to use the vast majority of these. If your PDF has sensitive business information, for example, uploading it to an anonymous website may not be the best plan. Instead, how about using Google Drive?

Google Drive has the benefit of being fast, free, and private. Private, because you need a Google account and password to access your files.

To start, go to Google Drive and click the New button. Then select File upload.

Now upload the PDF file that you want to convert to JPG. But Drive doesn’t natively convert PDFs to JPG. Therefore, we need to install an add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace. The one I like is PDF to JPG.

Install the add-on and then open the PDF file you want to convert. At the top of the screen, click the Open with menu and select the add-on you have just installed. Sometimes, you need to refresh the page a couple of times for the add-on to appear.

The PDF to JPG add-on will now open, and all going well, the PDF should auto-populate in the window. If not, you will need to click From your Device or From Google Drive to attach the PDF. When the PDF is showing, click Convert to start the process.

It should only take a few seconds for the conversion to complete. When the screen says it’s done, scroll to the bottom and select whether to save the converted JPG on your device or Google Drive. I would recommend your device because, weirdly, it downloads it as a zip file. This is a bit awkward if it’s on Google Drive.

How to convert a PDF to JPG on Windows

The best and easiest method by far to convert a PDF to JPG on Windows is to use a Microsoft Store tool. The best free one is Any PDF to JPG. Install it onto your computer.

Start the app up and click Load PDF at the top-left side of the window. Navigate to the PDF file’s location on your computer and select it.

When the PDF file has been loaded, and the image is showing, click Save Image at the bottom right of the window.

In the box that now appears, you can change the output folder, select which pages you want to convert, the scale, and what image format you want. As well as JPG, the app also supports other image formats such as PNG and TIFF.

After clicking Continue, the image will then be saved to the output folder specified.

How to convert a PDF to JPG on Mac

Converting a PDF to JPG on a Mac is even more simple. Open the PDF file in Preview, then go to File at the top of the screen. When the box drops down, hold down the Option key and Save As will suddenly appear. Select it.

In the Format menu, select JPEG and click the green Save button.
