DJI OM 4 is here: The latest smartphone gimbal tweaks the gold standard
- Today, DJI officially revealed the DJI OM 4, the latest smartphone gimbal from the company.
- The follow-up to the DJI Osmo Mobile 3, the gimbal looks the same but introduces a magnetic clip.
- The gimbal costs $149 and is available to buy right now.
- The counterweight set includes the gimbal for $158.99.
Last year, DJI impressed us with the DJI Osmo Mobile 3, the company’s first folding smartphone gimbal. Today, the company is unveiling the follow-up product, the DJI OM 4. Its star feature is a new magnetic clip assembly that makes attaching and detaching your phone a breeze.

You’ll probably notice a slight name-change between the two devices. Although DJI appears to be sunsetting the Osmo Mobile name for its line of gimbals, the “OM” moniker isn’t too far off. Either way, the OM 4 is the direct follow-up to the Osmo Mobile 3.
The Moment store offers a counterweight set to make balancing your phone feel effortless. They also have a slew of compatible lenses and filters to choose from.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 completely revamped the way the company’s smartphone gimbals looked and functioned. With the DJI OM 4, though, the design from the Osmo Mobile 3 carries over. That makes this a much more iterative upgrade than its predecessor.

Aside from the magnetic mount — which we’ll get to in a minute — there are no major differences between this and the 2019 model. DJI touts upgraded motors that allow it to handle bigger/heavier phones and some new software features. Overall, though, this appears to be a slightly-tweaked Osmo Mobile 3.
That’s not a bad thing at all, as the Osmo Mobile 3 is one of the best smartphone gimbals on the market. However, unless you absolutely love the magnetic mechanism discussed in the next section, you might not find the need to upgrade.
A magnetic clip and a magnetic phone ring
Inside the retail box of the DJI OM 4, you’ll find a magnetic smartphone clip as well as a magnetic smartphone ring. The clip will attach to your phone in the usual fashion by clamping onto both sides, holding it firmly in place. Since the clip itself is attached magnetically to the arm of the gimbal, you can simply pull the whole clip off and use your phone as normal. Then you can snap it back on when you want to record a video.

Similarly, the magnetic smartphone ring eliminates the need for the clip and allows you to snap your phone on the arm directly. Of course, you’ll need to decide if you want the ring stuck to the back of your phone (or phone case) at all times. We expect only hardcore video content creators will opt for this or those who use a smartphone just for video and then another as their daily driver.
