Latest Dr. Mario World update
Release date: July 9, 2019
Dr. Mario World went into pre-registration on the Play Store on June 18, 2019. The game went live about three weeks later and hasn’t received any new updates since then.
The first release was tagged as “Alpha 0.1.10-real-matcha-190703” on the Play Store. It introduced the game to players as a way to “use your puzzle skills to eliminate pesky viruses!”
What is Dr. Mario World?
Dr. Mario World is a puzzle game centering on the most popular video game character of all time, Mario. The game is officially licensed by Nintendo and created by the company in partnership with LINE and NHN.
In the game, Mario is working against the clock to stop viruses. Using a limited number of color-coded capsules, the player (as Dr. Mario or other characters) matches the appropriate capsules with the right viruses and eliminates them from the board. The object of the game is to get rid of all the viruses before running out of capsules.
As the game progresses, it introduces more obstacles, including Mario universe mainstays such as Koopa shells and brick blocks. There will also be appearances by other Mario characters such as Bowser, Princess Peach, Toad, and, of course, Mario’s brother Luigi.
How do you play Dr. Mario World?
Dr. Mario World is primarily a single-player game. You control your character using taps and swipes on your smartphone or tablet screen. For example, you drag a capsule from your stash onto the board using your finger and then tap on the capsule to rotate it on the board. There are also mini-games that pop up at various times where you can earn new skills and access to new characters.
There’s also a multiplayer aspect to Dr. Mario World. In stage mode, you can watch the progress of your friends and family as they play the game and even give them little power-ups periodically to help them out. There’s also a VS mode that pits you against a real-life opponent.
When did Dr. Mario World come out?
The game went into pre-registration on June 18, 2019, with a scheduled launch date of July 10, 2019. However, the Google Play Store listing went live a day early on July 9.
Is Dr. Mario World free-to-play?
Yes, Dr. Mario World is a free-to-play game. According to the Play Store listing, there will be microtransactions available during gameplay which could cost anywhere from $1.99 to $69.99 per item. These in-game purchases are optional; you can play and even complete the game without spending any money.
Will Dr. Mario World work on my device?
To play Dr. Mario World, you will need an Android device running Android 4.4 KitKat or later. It is not guaranteed that every Android device on KitKat or later will work, but most will.
Nintendo recommends you have at least 2GB of RAM on your device to ensure smooth gameplay.
For iOS users, you’ll need a device with iOS11 or later.
What languages are supported in Dr. Mario World?
Currently, the game supports 11 languages: English, Japanese, French, Spanish (Spain/Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil), German, Italian, Korean, and Chinese (Traditional/Simplified).
Can I play Dr. Mario World anywhere?
If the dominant language in your country is one of the 11 mentioned above, Dr. Mario World should work for you. However, Nintendo might delay bringing the game to certain locations.
Keep in mind that playing the game requires an active internet connection. As such, you won’t be able to play Dr. Mario World with your phone in airplane mode or in areas where you don’t have a strong enough data signal.
What’s the difference between Dr. Mario World and the original games?
The biggest difference between old-school Dr. Mario games and Dr. Mario World is the introduction of touch screen controls. This makes the game a bit easier as one of the tricks of playing earlier games was moving your capsule around using your controller.
Dr. Mario World also has much more expansive gameplay with multiple locations to explore and characters to meet. That’s why it’s called Dr. Mario World!
Will Nintendo update Dr. Mario World with new content?
Nintendo has committed to bringing new puzzles, new characters, and even entirely new worlds to the game. According to Nintendo, these updates will come “on a regular basis.”
