Duckstation is still the best PS1 emulator on Android, but its creator previously claimed early this year that they had abandoned the app. Fortunately, there’s great news for emulation enthusiasts.
Duckstation has recently started receiving beta updates via the official website, with the latest update landing on October 31. The official website confirms that Duckstation has effectively been rewritten, with the first alpha version being released on October 11. And there’s no shortage of additions and improvements.

The venerable PS1 emulator now supports more themes, search functionality in settings, automatic disc switching, a rewind timeline in the in-game menu, a swanky Big Picture Mode (seen above), and CloneCD images. Other notable improvements include better performance, a robust touchscreen input editor, accelerometer support, offline achievement tracking, and more shaders/filters.
It’s also worth noting that DuckStation on the Play Store was most recently updated on October 24. However, the website lists Android 7.0 as the minimum Android version, while the Play Store listing mentions Android 6.0. I’m guessing that the Play Store version might not be the rewritten app just yet.
