WhatsApp could soon let you edit messages

WhatsApp may finally be bringing a long-requested feature, allowing users to edit messages after they’re sent.
First spotted by WABetaInfo, a screenshot of a development build shows an “Edit message” option. Although the screenshot is of the Android version, WABetaInfo’s info suggests the feature is being developed for both Android and iOS.

It’s unclear how detailed the new feature will be. For example, there’s no information to indicate whether there will be an edit history or if the feature will only provide basic, one-off editing. Similarly, there’s no timeframe indicating when this feature will be available.
This isn’t the first time WhatsApp has reportedly toyed with the idea of allowing users to edit messages. According to WABetaInfo, the company was working on the feature five years ago before eventually scrapping it.
Here’s to hoping WhatsApp follows through and releases the editing functionality this time around.
