TL;DR
  • HONOR 8 Pro units in India are being seeded the EMUI 8.0 update with Android 8 Oreo.
  • The update weighs in close to 3 GB and brings VoLTE support to Vodafone and Jio users, along with the usual suite of EMUI 8 and Oreo features.
  • Other HONOR handsets such the HONOR 7X, HONOR 8 Lite, and HONOR 9i are also slated to get the update shortly.

HONOR 8 Pro users in India can expect new features to play with soon, as HUAWEI has started seeding the EMUI 8.0 update to users of the smartphone in India. This follows on the heels of last week’s release of the update to users in the UK.

The update weighs in at 2.81 GB and bundles EMUI 8.0 along with Android 8 Oreo. It carries the build number DUK-L09 8.0.0.310. The jump in number from EMUI 5.1 to EMUI 8.0 was to sync EMUI updates with Android OS versions. The Indian release of EMUI 8.0 brings VoLTE support for Vodafone and Jio users along with the usual enhancements characteristic of EMUI and Android 8 Oreo.

EMUI 8.0 brings a much more responsive UI assisted by AI features. The OS is supposed to use AI to intelligently guess the best shooting scene, recognize objects, or translate languages on the fly. It also brings new capabilities to PrivateSpace and bundles in the latest Google security patches.

Other handsets such as the HONOR 7X, HONOR 8 Lite, and HONOR 9i  are also expected to receive the update shortly. The newly launched HONOR View 10 and HONOR 9 Lite come with EMUI 8.0 out of the box.

HUAWEI has stayed true to its promise of releasing Oreo to selected handsets and the company is no showing no signs of slowing down in a market full of cut-throat competition. Proactively seeding updates is not something every OEM does. Doing so, however, ensures differentiation from the rest of the crop.
