The Essential Phone Audio Adapter HD is here (a year too late)
- The Essential Phone Audio Adapter HD is finally here.
- The snap-on peripheral will set you back $149 and give your Essential Phone a headphone jack and DAC.
- The Essential Phone Audio Adapter HD is arriving a year too late for most fans.
Well, it only took a year, but the second-ever Essential Phone modular accessory is finally here: the Essential Phone Audio Adapter HD. The snap-on accessory bestows your Essential Phone with a headphone jack as well as a DAC.
Before today, the only official modular accessory for the Essential Phone was the 360 camera. While this audio adapter is definitely more useful than a 360 camera, it might be a little too late for all but the most hardcore of Essential fans to care, considering the smartphone is over a year old at this point.
The audio adapter features a high-resolution ESS Sabre DAC with MQA support to deliver master quality authenticated audio on your device. Inside is an audiophile-grade amp that can power high-impedance headphones.
If that all sounds awesome to you, hopefully, you’re ready to pony up: the Audio Adapter HD costs $149.
With Essential reportedly out of the smartphone business entirely, the company dropping 30 percent of its staff, and owner Andy Rubin currently under fire from all angles, it’s likely this is the last accessory we’ll see for the Essential Phone. Our advice would be to wait on buying this until Essential is all but giving them away in a future fire sale. You’ve already waited a year, after all.
If you can’t wait, hit the button below to buy yours now.
