Corbin Davenport installed Fallout 1 on Android Wear because we dared him to
Corbin Davenport, the 16-year old developer responsible for installing Windows 95 and emulated Gameboy games on a Gear Live smartwatch, is back at it, and this time it’s personal.
See, in our recent post on how to install Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 on Android, our Jonathan Feist suggested that you can’t really do the same on an Android Wear device, due to the limited resources of a typical smartwatch.
Corbin took it as a challenge:
To which, we said, “hell yeah!” or rather “if you prove us wrong, send us an update ;).”
By Monday night, “challenge accepted” turned it into “challenge completed”. And so, we give you, Fallout 1 on Android Wear:
Okay, as Corbin admits in the video, Fallout is unplayable on the Gear Live, though the seminal 1997 RPG boots and runs, albeit very slowly. But this is still a great reminder that we live amazing times – just consider for a second that the device on your wrist is comparable in processing power with the average PC from 20 years ago. If that’s not amazing, I don’t know what is.
Check out Corbin’s other projects on YouTube (Gameboy games actually run smoothly on the Gear Live!) and keep an eye on him for more awesome stuff. Who knows what smartwatches will be capable of in a year or so…
Keep it up, Corbin!
