Fossil's Gen 6 Wellness Edition launched, and it's packing Wear OS 3

‘Tis the season for launching wearables. Today, Fossil announced a new health-focused option joining the fray, the Gen 6 Wellness Edition. Like all the company’s smartwatches, the device showcases a traditional aesthetic fit for the boardroom, but for the first time, it also packs Wear OS 3. This means Fossil joins the elite group of very few companies to feature Google’s latest.

For starters, the watch offers the latest Google Wear OS on a newly designed user interface. It also offers an exclusive Wellness App for recording important health and fitness stats. There’s also SpO2, heart rate, and sleep tracking, as well as automatic workout detection. These highlights are on top of the features found on the already existing devices of the Fossil Gen 6 line. Users will also find support for Amazon Alexa, Spotify, and YouTube Music, and can access even more via the Google Play Store.

The Gen 6 Wellness Edition features a 1.28-inch always-on, touchscreen display with ambient light sensing. Though available in only one 44mm case size, shoppers can opt for black, silver, or Rose Gold. Key specs include 8GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, a compass, an altimeter, and support for on-wrist calls when paired to a compatible smartphone. The watch also launches with three new watch faces. These include a device-exclusive Wellness Gauge watch face that earmarks essential stats.

Finally, the Gen 6 Wellness Edition taps into Fossil’s redesigned companion app which debuted in June alongside the Gen 6 Hybrid. Since the watch is compatible with both Android and iOS phones, new users can download the app from the Google Play Store or the App Store. Shoppers can grab a Gen 6 Wellness Edition on fossil.com or in Fossil stores beginning on October 17. Pricing for the device is set at $299. Users can strap in with an assortment of 20mm silicon straps available for $30.
